According to the official website of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the fifth of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (i.e., SDG 5) concerns gender equality and calls upon the international community to “achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” Within SDG 5, the United Nations has defined nine targets and fourteenindicators to assess whether the targets are being achieved. Notably, one of the targets of SDG 5 is to ensure the full participation of women in leadership and decision-making.
