7th International Research Conference by Yale-Great Lakes Center for Management Research

The Yale-Great Lakes Center for Management at Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, conducted The 7th International Research Conference that featured 15 research papers and 14 research proposals. Yale-Great Lakes Center for Management Research aims to promote, facilitate and advance India centric management related research contributing to the development of basic and applied knowledge in the field of management. The conference invited papers from academia and industry on any area of business management. The chief guest and keynote speaker for the day was Dr. Narendra M. Agrawal, Professor OB & HRM, IIM-Bangalore.

Dr. Venkat R. Krishnan, Director (Yale-Great Lakes Center for Management Research, Great Lakes Institute of Management) reiterated the importance and need for Empirical Research and Experiential learning in Management today. Dr. Bala V. Balachandran, Founder Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management and Distinguished faculty at Kellogg Business School in his welcome address took the attendees through India's history to explain the age-old link between Mr. Yale, Founder Yale University and Chennai and talked about the importance of empirical evidence in research. He also introduced the keynote speaker and the conference to the audience.

Dr. N M Agrawal after expressing his delight on the culture of Great Lakes, which fosters a strong sense of belongingness among its students and faculty, presented a glimpse of his work on resolving the human challenges in the field of IT/ITES. The session was a treat and set a perfect tone for the intellectual feast that followed.

Some of the sessions that followed the inaugural ceremony were 'The effect of analysts' forecast distribution on market reaction to earnings announcements and forecast revisions' by Prof Siva Nathan, Georgia State University, Atlanta; 'Relationship between organizational justice and commitment: Role of leader- member exchange', Gunjan Raja, Merit Trac Services, Bangalore, Venkat R. Krishnan, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai; 'Affect' does indeed promote 'interpersonal attraction': The role of inferred attraction and sex , Sweta Singh, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

The gathering also had the opportunity to listen to Mr. Shantanu Prakash, Chairman and Managing Director, Educomp on research in daily life being a way of life in getting to the root of a problem and solving it and aptly concluded that ‘Research is an Attitude’.
