Karma Yoga convention
The annual Great Lakes Karma Yoga convention happened on March 6 at Teresa Arts and Science College, Thirukazhukundram, Chennai. Great Lakes Karma Yoga is a unique Leadership Experiential Program through which the students of Great Lakes aid in providing livelihood training to villagers and in the process contribute to uplifting the rural economy. For this purpose, Great Lakes has adopted 25 villages around its campus.
Through the annual Karma Yoga convention this year, Great Lakes distributed ten tricycles for garbage collection for its adopted villages. The Panchayat leaders of the ten villages collected the cycles on behalf of their villages.
Around 400 villagers participated and shared their happiness with the members of Great Lakes Karma Yoga team.The government coordinator for clean India campaign, Mr. Rose spoke about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene. It was an interactive session between the villagers and the members of Karma Yoga. Mr. Rose’s speech was followed by a live demo by “Alert” NGO which showed various first aid techniques at times of medical emergencies.
Towards the end of the event, school children of Karma Yoga adopted villages participated in dance and singing shows. The cultural performance was the highlight of the convention with small children dancing to the folk tunes and women giving wonderful skit performances. Certificates and prizes were distributed to all the participants at the end of the program.
