Global Thought Leadership Series at Great Lakes
Industry titans visit Great Lakes as part of Global Thought Leadership Series (GTLS)
The Global Thought Leader Series is an exclusive Great Lakes initiative to connect students with business gurus and thought leaders in India. The aim of this series is to bring top Business Gurus and Thought Leaders to share their knowledge and insights with the students. With this goal, five eminent guests were recently invited to share their perspectives about leadership with Great Lakes’ students.
The Global Thought Leader Series was launched by Mr. Narayanamurthy, Founder & Chairman Emeritus, Infosys Technologies Limited; and Mr. R Gopalakrishnan, Director, Tata Sons. While Mr. Narayanamurthy motivated students to aspire for more and make this country a better place through the power of imagination, determination, will power and discipline, Mr. Gopalakrishnan candidly discussed issues related to the “Make in India” campaign, governance and corruption, and the start-up culture as part of his lecture on “What is not taught at B-Schools”.
Ms. Mridula Ramesh, Executive Director of Sundaram Textiles discussed at length the business opportunities that have emerged as a result of global warming and its consequences. The CMD of Global Consumer Products Pvt. Ltd., Mr. A. Mahendran encouraged students to never stop reinventing themselves. The theme of his discussion ‘The Art of Reinventing Yourself’ focused on the importance of continuous growth and evolution of every being. The current environment, be it business or otherwise is extremely fluid and dynamic, said Mr. Mahendran, citing examples of major world personalities who reinvented themselves to emerge stronger and better than they were ever before.
Taking the lectures forward, Dr. Muthuraman who has held several key executive positions in the coveted Tata International and Tata Steel Ltd., shed light on how leadership is more of an art than a science. He shared his insights and experiences about how a good leader differentiates himself/ herself from a bad one simply by the understanding of finer nuances while also looking at the big picture. The illuminating lecture touched upon vital aspects of leadership such as leading by example and how these can be put into practice.
Extrapolating the other guests’ discussions to the current context, Mr. D Shivakumar, CEO and Chairman, PepsiCo India by actively engaging students into discussing how brands need to adapt themselves to make greater Mobile and Digital Consumer Impact. He also shared with the students to follow the mantra “DEF – Dedication, Energy & Focus” to be successful CEOs. The lecture series was very well received and much appreciated by the student fraternity at Great Lakes and was of immense value to the soon to be managers.
