Commencement of PGPM Batch 2018-19
Great Lakes Institute of Management, Gurgaon, welcomed its 7th batch of PGPM students on 15th May 2018 at the campus. The event was graced by the presence of Mr Avnish Sabharwal, Managing Director, Accenture Ventures, as the chief guest.
Dr. Debashis Sanyal, Director, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Gurgaon, delivered the welcome address to the 157 students in attendance and introduced them to the history, journey, and achievements of this prestigious institute, its faculty and its students. Following the Great Lakes tradition, Dr. Sanyal named the latest PGPM batch - Ninjas.
Mr Mohan Lakhamraju, CEO & Vice Chairman, Great Lakes Institute of Management congratulated the students for getting selected in one of the best B-schools of the country and emphasized on the fact that the one year at Great Lakes will be a life changing experience for all of the students and not just a mere job opportunity. He added, it is an opportunity for the students to transform themselves and concluded his address by quoting Paulo Coelho’s alchemist, “Pursuit of one’s destiny is his only obligation to himself.”
Mr Avnish Sabharwal then shared enlightening insights of Accenture with the students and talked about how disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, Big Data, Blockchain and various others are shaping the new world. He further added how disruption is taking place in every industry imaginable and the organizations that are too rigid to inculcate the new technologies are fading away.
He went on to address the generation’s worst fear that the disruptive technologies like AI will put an end to various jobs in the future. He explained that while this might be true, it will also create new jobs and these are the kinds of jobs that the students of Great Lakes will be prepared to take on, armed with the required skillsets. He concluded with the quote that, “learning is a constant process and you’ll all have to learn how to learn and keep on learning in order to succeed in life.”
Professor Umashankar Venkatesh, Program Director, PGPM, Great Lakes, Gurgaon, concluded the event by delivering a vote of thanks to Mr Sabharwal for gracing everyone with his presence and officially commencing the Ninjas batch.
