Entrepreneur Cafe's 4th Annual Global Convention 2018

Great Lakes Institute of Management in association with Entrepreneur Café hosted the 4th Annual Global Convention (AGC) at their Chennai Bala V Balachandar Campus at Manamai on the theme – “Disruptive Entrepreneurship in Amazing India (AI)” on December 8th and 9th, 2018. This 24 hour nonstop event commenced on 8th December 2018 at 11 am with an inaugural event followed by a series of panel discussions, book launch, bonfire that was attended by delegates comprising of global media, policy makers, investors and entrepreneurs from across the country and overseas.

The inauguration session began with a welcome address by Dr. Bala V Balachandran, Founder, Dean & Chairman, Great Lakes, and was followed by an introduction to Entrepreneur Café and AGC by Dr Nikhil Agarwal, Founder, Entrepreneur Café. The session also included an inaugural address by Mr. Suresh Krishna, Chairman, Sundaram Fasteners; a keynote address by Mr. Dharmendra Pratap Yadav, IAS, Principal Secretary MSME, Govt. Of Tamil Nadu; an address by Dr. Tom Simon, Managing Director, The Babson Collaborative, Babson College, MA., USA; and a special address by Mr. R Ramanan, Additional Secretary and Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission, NITIE Aayog. Each of the speakers provided insights on entrepreneurship in today’s modern world, and how far India has grown and will continue to grow forward with disruptive technologies.A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Vaidy Jayaraman, Associate Dean, Great Lakes, for the inaugural session.

During the inaugural session a MOU was signed between Great Lakes Institute of Management and Babson College, Massachusetts, USA represented by Dr. Bala V Balachandran, Founder, Dean & Chairman, Great Lakes and Dr. Tom Simon, Managing Director, The Babson Collaborative, Babson College. Dr. Tom Simon stated that Babson was looking forward to all the future endeavors with Great Lakes given Dr. Bala’s inspiration and was also happy to be part of the 4th AGC event. This MOU is a mutually beneficial collaboration aimed at assisting student programs through capstone entrepreneurial leadership learning experience, faculty programs through symposium of entrepreneurship educators to equip faculty to teach entrepreneurship, and specially designed family entrepreneurship programs.

After the Inaugural on the 8th,Hon’ble K Pandiarajan, Minister of Tamil Language, Tamil Culture and Archaeology, Government of Tamil Nadu and Founder, Mafoi Management Consultants, addressed at the Thought Leader session of the AGC event. He spoke about how social disruption began in Tamil Nadu and has thus far began to spread into various forms transforming the entrepreneurial landscape over the past few decades.

There was a Master class and a whole set of Panel discussions through the day before winding up the day with a cultural program. Noteworthy was the session by two teenagers Mr. Krishiv Agarwal and Mr. Ishan Gangabasi, aged 13 & 10 as they shared their views on how they saw the future of technology and disruption.

The next day, (December 9, 2018), the valedictory session commenced at 12:00 noon and consisted of speeches by Mr Ravi Viswanathan, CMO, TCS, and Mr. Sunil Kumar, India Center Manager, World Bank. Both the speakers enlightened the gathering on how entrepreneurship is changing the Indian landscape and the mindset of the upcoming generation. This was followed by a concluding address by Dr. Bala V Balachandran, Founder, Dean & Chairman, Great Lakes. The curtains of the 2-day event of Entrepreneur Café was brought down by honoring the startups with an exclusive line of recognition awards.
